The spark for me came from a low place in my life. I turned my life around at the young age of 24. Instead of giving up I used that fire to fuel my drive to become someone I can be proud of. Knowing I can be great didn't come to me naturally and it's still something I fight every day. But the feeling I got by sacrificing my time and energy plus achieving small accomplishments has giving me the drive in confidence to reach my biggest goals. It's not something that comes to you over night. It's something that you need to fight to find every day.
What were the biggest initial hurdles to building your business and how did you overcome them?
Not knowing anything about owning my own business/brand but creating it alone from the bottom up was definitely my biggest hurdle. Studying online and doing endless amounts of research on how to own a business and how to promote a business was huge. Then learning and progressing in the craft of tattoing, that was an entirely new battle.
Did you ever deal with contention from your family and friends concerning your entrepreneurial pursuits?
How did you handle it? What would you do differently in hindsight?
Throughout school no one ever tells you that you're going to be able to make it in life as an artist or even a tattoo artist. Once I dedicated all my time and energy into art and tattooing I knew it was my outlet to create a better life even though I knew it was a huge risk. I did not have much support from any family or friends. I always try to handle it by maintaining progression and fight. I have learned how to deal with everyone else's opinion and my own self-doubt.
What would you say was the single most influential factor in your business success?
While doing research I came across a lot of podcast style interviews of very inspirational people. Sometimes you have to go after that inspiration, you can’t just wait for the inspiration to fall in your lap.
What do you know today that you wish you would have known when you first got started as an entrepreneur?
If I can go back in time and know I need to know now I would definitely tell myself to make sure you're venturing into something that you're passionate about and never let your self-conscience affect the choices you make. As long as you know there are pure intentions to create a better life
What advice would you give to an upcoming young and old entrepreneur locally and internationally?
Being an entrepreneur is a lot of self-motivation. These days it's easy to get distracted and with distraction come spending time and energy on things that are not important to the process of reaching your goals. So, build a game plan. Instead of trying to “achieve” go in thinking one day at a time and split it up into daily achievements. Document them and the time spent in that achievement you made. Always maintain and move forward.
