Aicha Evans, originally from Senegal and raised in Paris, embarked on a transformative journey that led her to become a trailblazer in the tech industry. After moving to the United States, she pursued her passion for technology at The George Washington University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering in 1996. Aicha’s career began with engineering management roles at notable companies like Rockwell Semiconductor, Conexant, and Skyworks Solutions. In 2006, she joined Intel, where she spent 12 years driving wireless engineering projects, including Bluetooth and 5G technologies. Her leadership skills and innovative mindset propelled her to head a communications and devices division with over 7,000 employees. By 2017, she had risen to the position of Chief Strategy Officer, cementing her reputation as a tech visionary. In February 2019, Aicha took a bold step by joining Zoox as its CEO, making her the first Senegalese-American female CEO of an autonomous vehicle technology company. Zoox, a mission-driven company, aims to revolutionize urban transportation with its fleet of zero-emission, autonomous vehicles designed for unparalleled customer experience.

Under Aicha’s leadership, Zoox introduced a self-driving, bidirectional vehicle tailored for city travel. This innovative car, devoid of traditional features like a steering wheel or pedals, offers a unique travel experience where passengers can work, sleep, or socialize while being chauffeured to their destination. With just a mobile app, users can unlock the doors, input their destination, and enjoy a seamless ride without the need for a key.

In June 2020, Aicha led Zoox through a monumental acquisition by Amazon for $1.3 billion. This strategic move highlighted Aicha’s foresight in pursuing aggressive patent coverage in the mobility space, making Zoox an attractive target for Amazon. Post-acquisition, Aicha continues to steer Zoox as a standalone business, driving forward its mission to transform urban mobility.

Beyond her professional achievements, Aicha is dedicated to community and volunteer work. She serves as a trustee for the Anita Borg Institute for Women & Technology and has co-signed an open letter addressing racial intolerance. Her contributions to the tech industry and her community have earned her numerous accolades, including being named to Business Insider’s list of 100 People Transforming Business and induction into the George Washington University Engineering Hall of Fame.

Aicha Evans’ story is one of determination, innovation, and visionary leadership. From her early days in Senegal to leading a groundbreaking autonomous vehicle company, Aicha exemplifies the power of following one’s passion and breaking barriers. As she continues to shape the future of urban transportation, Aicha remains a beacon of inspiration for aspiring tech leaders worldwide.
