Gerri's fervent advocacy journey commenced over seven years ago when she assumed a pivotal role on the Inuvik Transition House Board, a platform through which she ardently championed the cause of women's safety and well-being. Her dedication didn't stop there; she lent her voice and expertise to the Inuvik District Education Authority, imprinting her mark on educational initiatives vital for community growth. The corridors of influence extended further as she assumed the mantle of Vice President at the Beaufort Delta Education Council and contributed her insights to the NWT Human Rights Commission for a commendable five years, each stint reinforcing her commitment to societal progress.

In February 2022, Gerri ascended to the presidency of Pauktuutit Inuit Women of Canada, a monumental milestone in her journey of advocacy.
