Tomisha Jessup is a powerhouse in education, weaving together her passion for language and dedication to student success into a vibrant tapestry of achievements. Picture this: she steps into the role of GMAS Test Prep Program Coordinator at Chattahoochee Hills Charter School, and in just three months, she crafts a dynamic test prep program that not only stays under budget but also targets and uplifts students from grades 3-8. She’s not just creating a program; she’s building a legacy—interviewing and hiring 11 top-notch teachers, crafting curriculum with precision, and connecting with families to foster a community of learning. The incentives she creates spark attendance and growth, lighting a fire under her students' academic journeys. But Tomisha doesn’t stop there. As an SAT Scorer for Pearson, she dives into the minds of students, providing crucial feedback that shapes their writing skills and future opportunities. Her sharp eye and insightful comments help students refine their craft, making her an integral part of their academic success. Her expertise in curriculum development shines through during her tenure with Fulton County Schools, where she collaborates with another educator to develop an original Spanish curriculum for native speakers. This isn’t just any curriculum—it’s a county-wide blueprint that aligns with GA Performance Standards and ACTFL standards, ensuring that every unit is a stepping stone toward language mastery.

At East Point, Georgia, Tomisha takes on the challenge of teaching Spanish to high school students, and she does it with flair. She doesn’t just teach; she inspires, crafting original curricula and planning activities that immerse students in language and culture. Whether it’s through monthly conferences or bi-monthly newsletters, her communication with parents is bilingual and seamless. And when she’s selected as the Class of 2021 Lead, it’s clear that her leadership is as strong as her teaching.

Rewind to her time with Chicago Public Schools, where Tomisha is more than just a teacher—she’s a visionary. She develops long-term plans based on Illinois Curriculum Standards, using the 5E instructional model to push her students toward an 85% mastery average. Her approach to classroom management is revolutionary, focusing on restorative justice and community building. Her dedication doesn’t go unnoticed; she’s named “Teacher of the Month” six times and earns the coveted “Teacher of the Year” title for 2014-2015.

As Post Secondary Coordinator, Tomisha outperforms CPS Network 5 schools in college acceptances and financial aid completion. She’s a leader in every sense, holding weekly meetings, directing voter registration campaigns, and organizing events like college visits and graduation ceremonies. Her interventions help at-risk seniors stay on track, and she spearheads the first-ever Young Professionals of Color Youth Summit, connecting students with a panel of inspiring professionals under 40.

In her role as Program Director for OneGoal, Tomisha selects and mentors a cohort of students, guiding them from their junior year of high school through their freshman year of college. She’s a beacon of support, helping them navigate post-secondary options, college admissions, and financial aid. Her work doesn’t stop at graduation; she provides resources to ensure her students persist through their first year of college.

Tomisha’s journey began with Teach For America, where she was one of the few selected out of 45,000 applicants. Her experience teaching remedial summer programs in Chicago Public Schools and developing classroom management systems laid the foundation for her future success. And at Oakwood University, where she worked as a Financial Aid Assistant, she created the “Fin-Aid Checklist,” a tool that dramatically improved student satisfaction with the financial aid process.

Tomisha Jessup’s story is one of relentless dedication, innovative thinking, and a deep commitment to the success of every student she encounters. Her impact resonates through the halls of every school she’s touched, leaving a lasting legacy of excellence and empowerment.
